This lovely vintage postcard, featuring the four-leaf clover Superior logo, was mailed using a gray 5-cent Washington stamp April 12, 1963 to Miss Florence Hertler, 1110 No. La Salle, Chicago, Ill. It reads:
Stayed here one nite on our way down – were staying at Lauderdale by the Sea and Greg and Barbie are with us. They’re having a wonderful time in the pool. Love Mary
What a fantastic card! The swimsuits. The old couple, man holding a red ball. It’s just delightful. While this card is clearly 1960s, there are some older versions online as well, listing the address as 164 Clearwater Largo Road.
If you are looking to stay at the Starlite, you’re in luck…it’s now called D&F Pathway’s Motel and the photos on Trip Advisor make it look neat and clean. Pretty good reviews as well. They have a little website here.
LoopNet notes the place has 17 units (one as an owner’s unit) built in 1952. And here it is, courtesy of Google Street View:
The pool is long gone. But as the place still stands and is open for business? It’s a decided win! Pet friendly, weekly rates to attract snowbirds staying for the winter; if you are in the area, please check it out and let us know what you think.
