This lovely card was mailed from Fort Lauderdale in January of 1980 using a ten cent People’s Right to Petition for Redress stamp. It was sent to V.A. Medical Center, Voluntary Service (135), West Haven, Conn 06516. It reads:
Jan. 31st. Thurs.
Hi Takes 2 cocktails to make a complete circle. Sight is beautiful. Weather is great. Leaving for West Coast Feb 1st. Did very well on our way down.

This lovely postcard was mailed in 1979 usint a nine cent Right of People Peaceably to Assemble stamp. It was mailed to Mr & Mrs Everett Roger, Oak Bluffs, Mass 02557 and reads:
Hi The flight was just perfect got here at 4 oclock weather isn’t bad a bit cool but nice the place looks real nice hope you are both well take care

That’s it. No punctuation at all.
I did a quick search…often, I think about how I happened to have this card that used to belong to someone else. Quite often, it’s because the person who received the card has died and it was sold in an estate sale and I picked it up from someone else entirely. Mrs. Everett Roger (Genevieve), passed away in 2011 at age 95. Her obituary is here. She held on to this card 32 years or so.
In 2009, Bob and I made a trip to Florida, and we ate dinner in the revolving restaurant at the top of this Motor Hotel. Here are some views:
Pier 66 is now a Hyatt Regency. Jane’s Bits has a little history here: “Its iconic 17-story tower was constructed in 1964 for nearly $6 million. The project included about 250 rooms and a revolving top floor cocktail lounge; both opened in 1965 but not after some construction problems. The building leaned slightly to one side and was righted with extra fill.”
