Do you send postcards?
Think back to the last time you sent a postcard. Maybe it’s been awhile. It seems that sending postcards, like Christmas cards, have fallen out of favor. Think about the last time you received a postcard. How touching, to know that someone thought of you while they were on vacation of all places. Someone you know was having the time of their lives, enjoying the wonderment of a different environment, and for a few minutes they thought enough of you to want to let you know that you were on their mind.
How fabulous!
Why, sending or receiving a postcard is something that should be celebrated! And, in fact, it is. National Postcard Week is May 5 -11, 2013, and this is the 30th year of the celebration. Woot!
I’m fortunate that my friends and family know about my collection, and make additions when they travel.
My friend Kathleen sent me this postcard from Jensen Beach, Florida (beautiful sunsets along the Indian River, photo by Martin Gordash, (c) Scenic Florida Distributors). One of the problems with modern day postmarks (have you looked at cancellations on your mail lately? really?) is that they are almost impossible to read. I can see this was sent from West Palm Beach, but there is no way of seeing the date. It does have a 42 cent stamp on it, which would likely put it mailed between May 2008 and May 2009. Kat talks about the weather, her family and how she’s been enjoying some ice cream.
April, my coworker, brought back this card from her recent trip to Las Vegas. She went there to get married (congratulations, April and Mark!). I had her write the date of her wedding on the back.
I’m celebrating this year’s National Postcard Week by designing, writing and mailing postcards to friends and family. I’ll drop them in the mail today. If you want me to send you a postcard, drop me a note in the comments!

Great modern postcards. I forgot it was National Postcard Week.

Judy,
Thank you so much for visiting my blog and taking the time to comment! This is my first year doing anything for NPCW. When I was last at the post office, I tried to chat about it with the staff, but I was way more excited than they were!
