This vintage card was mailed from Fort Myers February 8, 1968 (Pray for Peace cancellation), but someone has removed the stamp. It was mailed to Tom & David Malaby, 2807 Dillwood Dr., Kokomo, Ind. 46901. It reads:
2-7-68
Hi All!
We are here for a few days then over to West Palm. We miss you boys. Have been having a nice time. Took a ride down to Naples to-day. Going to dinner with friends here to-nite. Weather fine – no rain – no snow! We stayed here last year.
Be good boys.
Love, Betty & Dwight
At the top, in tiny lettering, it reads:
David the little boy on Walt Disney’s (until the dogs) found a home in Tucson.
No idea what that means.
At first, I thought this was a postcard for the GULFview Motel, instead of GOLFview. Is the Fort Myers Golf Course that big of a deal? The place does have a nice pool and it seems like exactly the sort of place we stayed when we were kids.
Friends, I am overjoyed to tell you that the Golfview still stands!
Here’s their Google + page. Maybe it doesn’t get the best reviews on Trip Advisor. However, if you are German, it is apparently quite fine.
Tom and David Malaby’s father passed away in 2012, and the obituary is here. David passed in 2008. I’ve posted a connection on the Malaby Family facebook page and will update if I get a response.
