This cards has the AAA and Quality Courts logos. It was mailed using a 3 cent Mackinac Bridge stamp with the cancellation Pray For Peace on July 21, 1958 to Miss Catherine Robbins, 231 Washington, Riverside N.J. It reads:
Just landed from a West Indies Cruise which was a load of fun & very beautiful. We had 10 days in the islands. We are all beginning to look like natives. Love, Lucille.
Now that is one hell of a description on the card. America’s most fabulous year-round resort? Must be due to the Rumpus Room and small-fry TV! Planned entertainment? I can’t wait!
The photo on this card doesn’t really do the place justice. There are other available vintage cards out there showing a front-view of the hotel and it really is a large resort. It was also featured in a vintage Hertz Rental Car ad (ebay, $24…a bit spendy for my needs). Wiki Answers notes the Dunes was built in 1955 and demolished in 2003. Here’s a vintage pamphlet on Florida Memory (love, LOVE Florida Memory!).
