Bath Fizzies

So, the bath fizzies project didn’t go as planned. They might not be usable. I went by a recipe from Martha Stewart, which was probably my first mistake. I couldn’t get any photos of the making of, as this is MESSY. And, if you have any cuts on your hand, it BURNS.

Ingredients include cornstarch, baking soda, citric acid, food coloring and geranium oil. The coloring is added to a spray bottle of water. You gently spritz the powder until you can pack it tightly into your container. Then you leave it to rest.

It made less than I thought it was going to, for starters. I packed it tightly into the silicone tray, even with the top of each mold, and left it overnight. When I went to pop them this morning, this is what I found:

They have already partially fizzed up. The top was bone dry. Getting them out of the molds was challenging, because the lower part is goey, like a homemade marshmallow.

They are also very, very STICKY. Like, every piece of lint and cat hair in the house immediately flew up and stuck on them. Because doesn’t everyone like their bath fizzy to create a sheen of cat hair on the top of the bath water?

I pulled them all out and left them. I didn’t want to put them in the treat bags yet, because they will stick. It’s possible (probable?) that when I get home, they will be completely popped and fizzed out into blobs. If that’s the case, I will put one in the sink and see if it will work at all. If not, they go in the trash instead of in the Valentine’s gifts.

You never know with these projects if things are going to work out and become Tried-and-True recipes. This one isn’t, for sure. I’m thinking of concentrating on putting together sachets over the weekend instead of the vanilla, and give the vanilla not as gifts but just because I have 27 vanilla beans and five jars sitting up in the sewing room.

Also, I finished reading A Discovery of Witches this morning. It was fun reading. Can’t wait for the next one to come out in July!
