Peoples Service Drug Stores logo.
From looking around the internet, this postcard seems to be used for multiple locations of the Peoples Service Drug Stores coffee shops. From Wiki: Peoples Drug was a chain of drug stores based in Alexandria, VA, a suburb of Washington, D.C. Founded in 1905, Peoples was subsequently purchased by Lane Drug in 1975, Imasco in 1984, and finally by CVS in 1990, which continued to run the stores under the Peoples banner until 1994, at which time the stores were converted to CVS, marking the end of the use of the Peoples Drug name.
While there still is a Glenridge Shopping Center at the location, and there is a CVS in the same location, I doubt very much any of the coffee shop remains. In fact, a coffee shop in a drug store is a rare thing these days.
Personally, I like the concept of “food to suit your mood”. I’m all about emotional eating! Most days, the food to suit my mood consists of ice cream and maybe pasta. And perhaps I’d be a little less hostile waiting for a prescription to be filled if I could enjoy a nice cup of coffee while I wait. I am interested in the blurred/double image of the woman working the cashier stand. How long did it take the photographer to snap the pic, anyhow?
Do you remember a time of cafes and coffee shops or lunch counters? Did you ever sit and enjoy the food while contemplating life and/or waiting for your prescription?
